Qian Shi, also known as Euryale ferox or Fox Nut, is a herb commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It has various uses, ongoing research, and a few contraindications.

1. Uses in TCM:
a. Tonifying Kidney and Spleen: Qian Shi is often used in TCM to tonify the Kidney and Spleen energy. It is believed to strengthen these organs and improve their functions. It is commonly used for conditions such as frequent urination, enuresis (bedwetting), and diarrhea.

   b. Moisturizing the Intestines: Qian Shi has a moistening effect on the intestines and is used to address symptoms of dryness and constipation.

2. Ongoing research:
a. Antioxidant Properties: Qian Shi contains antioxidants that may help protect against oxidative stress and associated cellular damage. While studies on this specific herb are limited, antioxidant activities have been demonstrated in other related plant species.

a. Spleen and Stomach Dampness: Qian Shi has a moistening nature and should be used with caution or avoided in individuals with excessive Spleen and Stomach Dampness, as it may worsen digestive symptoms such as bloating, heaviness, and diarrhea.

   b. Phlegm-Cold Conditions: Qian Shi should also be used with caution in cases of phlegm-cold conditions, as it may exacerbate symptoms such as congestion, cough, and a feeling of heaviness in the body.
